How to use this reference
- Use these dimensions at the design stage, before finalising orders or starting cabinetry work.
- Standard sizes are based on Indian residential practice — adjust for elderly users (lower counters, wider passages), children's rooms (lower hanging rods, lower wardrobes) and accessibility (60-inch turn radius for wheelchair).
- Combine with the Furniture Spacing Guide to verify clearances around each piece.
- For cabinetry, feed these sizes into the Plywood Calculator to estimate sheets.
Why standards matter
Standard dimensions evolved because they fit the average human body and the most common usage patterns. A 32-inch vanity feels too low for most adults; a 36-inch counter feels too high for short cooks. The standard ranges above let you adjust by a few inches up or down to suit your specific user — but stay within the range for resale value and contractor familiarity.
